History : Our department was founded in 1993 under the name of Metallurgical Engineering. In 2011-2012 academic year, our department began day time and evening time undergraduate education. The department changed its name as Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in 2015. Extractive Metallurgy and Materials are the main disciplines of the department.
Qualification Awarded : Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.
Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle) : First Cycle
Specific Admission Requirements : To have high school and balanced school diploma and to get enough points from related field of Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS) made by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM).
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) : Students enrolled in the program can be exempted from the courses they have achieved in the higher education institutions they have already studied. Also; an exemption examination is opened at the beginning of each academic year for the foreign language course and the courses proposed by the relevant committees and approved by Senate. Students who score 65 or more on the exemption exam are exempted from these courses.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : In order for the students to graduate with a Bachelors (First Cycle) Degree, they need to successfully complete at least 240 ECTS and have a Grade Point Average (GPA) 2.00/4.00. Student must complete all required internships/summer training properly and in the given period of time. Exam grades are evaluated over 100 points. The letter grade is given on the bases of 4.0 credit system. The achievement grade is transformed into a letter grade according to the evaluation system.
Profile of The Programme : In every moment of our life various materials are used certainly. Materials need to be produced, developed and tested so that, materials related engineering area exists. Metallurgical and Materials engineering is interested in converting the needed material to consumer product through processes of designing, researching, environmentally friendly manufacturing by using theoretical and applicable knowledge on the material of interest.
Students, can choose the elective courses which could orientate them according to their individual abilities such as social, judicial, executive and financial domains in addition to engineering courses prepared by taking account the technological and scientific developments.
In MCBU Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department, experienced academic staff is present in characterization and development of metal materials, composites, ceramics, biomaterials, refractory, electronic and magnetic materials, tribology, surface treatment areas.
In so many engineering branches, new designs depend on development of new materials. Materials Engineering Department is a multidisciplinary scientific branch among, chemistry, mechanic, civil, aerospace and environment and medical engineering areas.
Production and utilization of high quality materials for innovative designs provides international competition among countries.
As a result of this, the department encourages the students to be able to work in the multidisciplinary projects, be able to follow the innovations, use the laboratory facilities and be proactive in academic studies.
Through our education, students are prepared as confident materials engineers who are beneficial to society with a sense of social responsibility.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples : Our alumni are able to easily undertake jobs inland and abroad owing to the qualified education they acquired in our Department. Our alumni can work in many units like Manufacturing, Production, Quality Control, Research and Development and Marketing related to Materials Engineering. Among the potential working areas are Biomaterials, Nanomaterials, Composites materials, Metal Production(Ferrous, Non-ferrous), Metals fabrications (Rolling Mill, Foundry etc.), Heat treatment, Glass and Ceramic Production, Electronic, magnetic, smart materials, ship and space industry etc,
Access to Further Studies : Graduates holding a Bachelor's (first cycle) degree are eligible to apply to a Masters (second cycle) degree program at national level and/or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : At least one midterm and one final exam are given for each course. Other than midterm exams, quizzes, projects and other activities that the instructor deems appropriate can be done. The contribution of these activities to the number and grade of achievement is indicated in the course plan by the instructor. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Success grade is converted to letter grade with relative evaluation. The student must take at least a CC letter grade to be considered successful in a specific course. Students with a GPA of at least 2.00 (DC) and (DD) are considered successful in the courses they take. Students who do not have a failed course, but whose GANO is below 2.00, must first take the courses (DC) and (DD) to get their GANOs above 2.00 in order to graduate.
Graduation Requirements : To be able to graduate from the program, it is necessary to achieve the whole of the courses available (240 ECTS credits), to obtain a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 and to complete the Industrial Training Applications and compulsory internship.
