History : hemistry division of Manisa Celal Bayar University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences was founded in 1993-1994 academic years and being started education and training activities at same academic years.

Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle) : Second Cycle
Specific Admission Requirements : Candidates must have a Bachelor of Science’s diploma and a score of not less than 55 points in the applied program from the Academic Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) to apply to the Master of Science program.
Candidates must have at least 40 points from the Public Personnel Foreign Language Proficiency Examination (YDS) or the exam centrally organized by the Manisa Celal Bayar University Foreign Language Department or an equivalent scores from any of the foreign language exam accepted by the University Council. The above requirement is not required for the candidates who apply to the programs for which preparatory class is obligated or who succeed in the preparatory class in the undergraduate education.
Achievement score in Master of Science programs is at less 65 points. Achievement score is the sum of the 50% of the ALES exam, 30% of the Bachelor of Science diploma score and 20% of interview. The score of candidates who do not enter interview are not calculated.
Candidates who have a point of 65 or higher achievement score are listed according to their scores starting from the highest in Master of Science programs. Candidates in the quote receive a definitive registration right in the applied program.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) : Students enrolled to the Master of Science program may request exemption from the courses they have achieved in the equivalent programs at any of the other higher education institution. For the exemption from the courses they have achieved prior, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department within the next week of enrollment week.

Profile of The Programme : Education-training and research activities at the Biology Division are carried on in five different sub-division, Zoology, Botany, Hydrobiology, Molecular Biology and Basic and Industrial Microbiology. Biology graduated from the Master of Science program, can work as a researcher with sufficient knowledge and skill in research and development and quality control laboratories of various institutions or organizations, can share knowledge by using communication technologies, can apply analytical methods and use devices that be able to respond to the needs of the industry, can have scientifically creative, innovative and open to developments, can provide useful and productive services in educational institutions if they take the necessary training formations.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples : Biologists are in demand in a wide range of areas and the employment rate for new graduates is excellent. Graduates of Biology may apply to the following main fields of work or employment; Research; Biologists might join a research team in a university, research institutes, research and development departments in private and public sector or pharmaceutical company, using their scientific skills and practical ability, besides some councils such as agricultural, medical and natural environmental and etc. Another largest area of employment for biologists is industry such as pharmaceutical, food, and brewing, offers a wide variety of work from laboratory based research for those with intellectual and practical scientific talents, to sales, marketing, purchasing and production for those who have a commercial and managerial affair. About half of the biology graduates who work for industry go into laboratory based jobs. Besides those, there are jobs in the laboratories of hospitals as scientists and technicians. Education is one of the major areas of employment again covering the spectrum of academic ability. A biology degree provides an ideal basis for entering the teaching profession. In terms of numbers, most biologists that follow an educational career enter secondary school teaching, for which the best route is via a degree course and post-graduate certificate in education. On the other hand, at the upper end of the academic spectrum, there are positions in Universities as lecturers.
Access to Further Studies : Students who have successfully completed the Master of Science program can apply to a Philosophy of Doctorate programs in the same area or different areas that accept their chemistry graduates.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : Exams are composed of mid-term, final and make-up exams. Other than exams, quiz, project, homework and other activates that the lecturer may consider appropriate can be applied. The number of these activities and the contribution to the achievement score are stated in the course plan by the lecturer. All exams can be applied as written, oral or both written and oral or practical. All exams are evaluated over 100 pointe and converted into letter grades by the system. Achievement score is calculated by taking not less than 50% of final exam and the percentage determined by lecturer of mid-term exam and other activates. Letter point limits are determined by the lecturer. The student must take at least a CC letter grade to be consider a successful for a course.

Facilities : There are a research laboratory for each sub-division and one instrumental analysis laboratory. The division is equipped with basic research tools and also FT-IR and UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometer, fluorimeter, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), atomic absorption spectrometer, surface area determination and gamma radiation counting devices for graduate experimental studies as well as for scientific studies.
