Celal Bayar University Faculty of Arts & Sciences Department of Sociology was founded in 2013. Education-Teaching activities started with the approval of YÖK in 2015-2016 education period.

To have a high school and a balanced school diploma and to get enough points from related subject of Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS) made by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). According to the results of the central examination called Foreign Student Examination (YÖS), foreign students are accepted within a certain quota.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students enrolled in the program and those who come in the horizontal and vertical transition can be exempted from the courses they have achieved in the higher education institutions they have studied before. In addition, exemption exams are opened at the beginning of each academic year for the Foreign Language course and the proposals of the related boards and the courses approved by Senate. Students who score 65 or more on exemption examinations are exempted from these courses.

The student must have succeeded all his courses in the programme. In this programme, the student is expected to get 240 ECTS credit and his average grade is expected to be at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Profile of The Programme

In Sociology Department; General Sociology and Methodology, Institutional Sociology, Applied Sociology and Social Structure and Transformation are major areas. Sociology is a social science discipline that deals with the different dimensions of social life in relation to each other. Sociology has close links with the disciplines of economics, psychology, anthropology, law, philosophy, management, politics, communication, history, art and literature. In the first years of undergraduate education, courses in sociology, philosophy, anthropology and psychology are taught in order to define close disciplines. In the following years, it is possible to develop sociological knowledge and experience in lessons related to certain subfields of sociology. In addition to sociological knowledge, sociology students are expected to develop their ability to interpret and think critically.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Students who successfully complete the program receive a "Bachelor of Sociology" diploma. Students can be appointed as Philosophy Group and Guidance Teacher in high schools if they receive the 40 credits of philosophy (16), psychology (16) and logic (8) required by the Ministry of National Education and then receive Pedagogical Formation Certificate after graduation. Sociology graduates can work in the public and private sectors with the title of sociologist as well as master and doctorate students. Departmental graduates are employed as academicians in universities, in prisons, in Ministry of Development, Ministry of Public Works and Settlement, Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Family and Social Policy, TRT, RTÜK and State Economic Enterprises Can work as teachers in secondary education institutions as sociologists, researchers, specialists, consultants or civil servants in their homes, in needy children's dormitories, in industrial rooms, in kindergartens, in trade unions and in relevant units of non-governmental organizations.

Graduates holding a Bachelor's (first cycle) degree are eligible to apply to a Masters (second cycle) degree program at national level and/or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
|
:
|
At least one midterm exam and a final exam are held for each course. Other than midterm exams, quizzes, projects and other activities that the instructor deems suitable can be done. The contribution of these activities to the number and grade of achievement is indicated in the course plan by the teaching staff. Success grade is calculated on the basis of 40% of the midterm exam and 60% of the final exam. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Success grade is converted to letter grade with relative evaluation. For a student in order to be considered as successful, he/she must obtain a CC as a minimum grade. Students with a GPA of at least 2.00 (DC) and (DD) are considered to be successful in grades. Students who do not have a failed course but whose GANO is below 2.00 must first take the courses (DC) and (DD) to get their GANOs above 2.00 in order to graduate.

Projections are available in all classrooms. Also common areas of the faculty are; two computer classrooms, a cultural center, four amphitheaters, and social and sports facilities located within the campus are open to the use of students for distance education classes. It is possible for the students of the department to study in ERASMUS, MEVLANA and FARABI programs and at universities in Turkey and abroad
