Specific Admission Requirements

Graduates of the following departments of universities can apply to the master's program: • Department of Civil Engineering • Department of Geological Engineering • Department of Geophysical Engineering Students are admitted to the program through an interview. The number of students to be admitted to graduate programs and the qualifications to be sought in candidate students are announced before the beginning of each semester. In this announcement, the application conditions and the deadline, the place, and the date where the candidates will be interviewed are stated. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree for application. They must have a minimum ALES numerical score of 55 or have an ALES equivalent score of at least 55 from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Those who are accepted to the MCBÜ Earthquake Engineering Master's Program (English) must fulfill at least one of the English foreign language exemption requirements or be successful in the MCBÜ School of Foreign Languages English placement exam. Those who do not meet at least one of the exemption conditions or fail the English placement test must study English preparatory. The English foreign language exemption requirements are as follows: 1) Those who apply to the master's program, at least in the last three years, have studied in a country where English is spoken as their mother tongue and completed their education in these institutions, 2) Those who get at least 65 points in the central English foreign language exam accepted by the Council of Higher Education and those who have an equivalent score in the international foreign language exam, which is accepted as equivalent, 3) Candidates who certify that they are successful in the English Placement Exam organized by the MCBÜ School of Foreign Languages, 4) Those who have completed their undergraduate or graduate education in the departments of higher education institutions that provide education in 100% English. Candidates who meet these conditions are evaluated through an interview. Interview grade is given out of 100 full grades. The scientific achievement level of a candidate; is the sum of 50% of the ALES score, 30% of the undergraduate grade point average, and 20% of the interview grade. The scientific achievement level must be at least 65. Candidates within the quota gain the right to final registration to the programs they apply to.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students enrolled in the Master of Science program may request exemption from the courses they have achieved in the equivalent programs at any of the other higher education institutions. For the exemption from the courses they have achieved prior, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department within the next week of enrollment week.

To complete the Master of Science programs successfully, students must join at least eight courses in a condition totally not less than twenty-four credits and a seminar and successful at the preparation of thesis study; and complete at least 60 ECTS credits in an education-training year, totally 120 ECTS credits including seminar course and thesis study in a maximum six semesters.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Exams are composed of mid-term, final, and make-up exams. Other than exams, quiz, project, homework, and other activates that the lecturer may consider appropriate can be applied. The number of these activities and the contribution to the achievement score are stated in the course plan by the lecturer. All exams can be applied as written, oral, or both written and oral or practical. All exams are evaluated over 100 points and converted into letter grades by the system. Achievement score is calculated by taking not less than 50% of the final exam and the percentage determined by the lecturer of mid-term exam and other activates. Letter point limits are determined by the lecturer. The student must take at least a CC letter grade to be considered successful for a course.
